Organization Structure of the National Electoral Commission
The Commission consists of seven (7) Members, including the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson who should be qualified as a High Court Judge or Court of Appeal. The President shall appoint the Vice- Chairperson of the Electoral Commission on the basis of the principle that where the Chairperson hails from one part of the Union, the Vice- Chairperson shall be a person who hails from the other part of the Union. This, in accordance with Article 74 (1) and (2) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977, and Article 4 (1) of the National Electoral Act, Cap 343.
In addition, one Member is appointed from among the members of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) and four (4) other members are persons possessing either adequate experience in the conduct or supervision of Parliamentary elections or such other qualifications as the President considers necessary for, or prerequisite to, the effective discharge of the functions of the Commission.
The Commission has a total of seven (7) Members as indicated below: -

3. Hon. Judge Asina Abdillah Omari, Member

5. Hon. Magdalena Kamugisha Rwebangira, Member
6. Hon. Court of Appeal Judge Mwanaisha Athuman Kwariko, Member
7. Hon Dr. Zakia Mohamed Abubakar, Member
Members of the Commission serves in office for a period of five years, however the President may re-appoint them for another term as it seems fit. In carrying out its responsibilities, the Commission is assisted by the Secretariat headed by the Director of Elections who is the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Commission. Currently the Director of Elections is Dr. Wilson Mahera Charles.
In addition, the Commission has 6 Divisions, Zanzibar Office and 3 Units as follows: -
(i) Election Management Division;
